Becoming a Disciple

 Leader: Elder Emory Brown

Becoming a Disciple

This booklet is designed to take you through a simple process of examining the Bible for yourself, and carefully thinking through what it means to become a disciple of Jesus Christ. It is also designed to bring you to a point of commitment, of fully embracing the faith—the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In session one, we will study the gospel—the basic message which one must believe in order to receive forgiveness of sins and become part of the family of God. Fully accepting the gospel is the first step toward becoming a disciple. We will examine the second step—baptism—in session two. In the third session, we will look at the essentials of the teaching. The early followers of Christ referred to this teaching as the didache (the Greek word for "the teaching"). The Apostles delivered this teaching, and each believer was to be apprenticed in it. We will consider the importance of internalizing the teaching, in the fourth session. The teaching was not just content to be learned, but was intended to shape and transform the disciples’ lives. In the fifth session, the subject will be lifestyle issues—how to live and relate in the world.  The sixth session is the integrating session, which unites all five sessions together, deepening your conviction and practice related to the principles.
